5 Ways To Defeat Procrastination For Good in 2019

We've all been there. You've got a big assignment, or task for my working baes, and you know it MUST be done. You've got ample time to get it done and next thing you know, you're scrambling the day before to make sure everything is done, when it could've been, and should've been finished weeks ago. Trust me sis, you're not alone.

Procrastination is something I've always struggled with. Knowing that I've got plenty of time but still choosing to wait until the last minute. For me, though, it doesn't manifest as me choosing to wait, I get a type of anxiety when I know I'm supposed to be doing something.

Take homework for instance, this past semester, I would come home and clean things that more than likely didn't need cleaning or reorganize something that would take a lot of time, like the laundry room. All the while, I could've been getting assignments and blog posts done. Something goes off in my mind that will lead me to something I've been putting off longer than getting my assignment done. Next thing you know, it's 2am and I'm not even HALF way done with my first assignment.

So how do we defeat this demon? How do we get rid of procrastination for good? It won't happen overnight, but I can assure you if you follow these 5 life hacks, you will start to get over your need to procrastinate FOR GOOD!

Step by Step

Most people try to get things done in one big load. I'm no different. For the longest time, I would try to do one (sometimes two) tasks with no breaks. Doing that can cause frustration, and as a person with a super short temper (don't judge me, I'm working on it) I don't need any more frustrations than I already have. Break your task up into fragments, depending on how long you think it will take you to accomplish. For some it will be 2 fragments, for some it'll be 4 but making sure you're taking breaks in between hard tasks will assure quality work and less anxiety to get it done.

Give Yourself a Deadline

Believe it or not, some people work better with a deadline. Got a specific date in mind to get the job done? Great! This is where breaking your task into fragments comes into play. Inversely, if your task must be done by the day's end, set a specific time on your phone and get that shit done!

Get Rid of ALL Distractions

Hey you! YEAH YOU!!! Put that phone away and get your work done! We are the generation of devices and Lord knows we have a problem when it comes to reconnecting to the real world. When everything has a Wi-Fi connection, how are we supposed to concentrate? Oh, I know!!! TURN IT OFF! Power down that phone, or at least set your ringer to silent and get to work!

Rewards!

Remember when you were a kid and your parents gave you an allowance for getting chores done? Yeah me neither, but you can totally do it now as an adult! I'm not saying give yourself $100 for cleaning the kitchen but treat yourself. For every one item marked off your task list, treat yourself to a small treat. Unless Tiffany's is your thing.

Positive Reinforcement

Ever stay up super late to get a task done, like homework or a presentation, when all you want to do is shower and curl up under the sheets? Pushing yourself to finish your task can be helpful so that you can get to that shower quicker. Just focus and get it done hunni!!!

If you can’t get any of your tasks done, even after going through the entire list, don't beat yourself up about it. Be nice! Remember that you're human and sometimes we just don't want to get things done. It's ok sis! Take a day off, but always remember why you started. I hope my tips have been helpful to you. Let me know how you plan to conquer procrastination in 2019. As always, thank you for your love and support. Don't forget to Like, Comment, Share and most of all SUBSCRIBE!!! Until next time...
