Spa Series: Essential Oils

So this installment of Spa Series was inspired by a recent TikTok video I posted. It did fairly better than my other videos so I thought I'd create post to go a little more in depth on how we can use essential oils.

Essential oils can help in many different ways, including relaxation, meditation, and uplifting. You can wear them as body aromas, put a few drops in a nice hot soak, or (my favorite) fuse them in a warm towel and inhale the aroma. Essential oils are amazing and they are a large part of ALL of my facials. Whether they're warm, earthy, floral, or citrus, essential oils can (and will) affect your overall mood. Let's get into it...

Warm Notes

Warm essential oils are great to use when you want to wind down from a stressful day or make you feel that warmth you're missing on a cold winter day. They can, sometimes, become warm on the skin especially if they're being used in massage. An example of warm essential oils are: cinnamon, patchouli, ylang ylang, myrrh, and sandalwood.

Earth Notes

Earthy, or woodsy, essential oils have the ability to bring you back home; to become one with nature. They remind you of a fresh cut grass, a walk in the park, and wood burning on an open fire. They can make you feel recharged, crazy calm, and at peace. Some examples of earthy/woodsy essential oils are: cedarwood, clary sage, frankincense, ginger and vetiver.

Floral Notes

Florals are probably one of my favorite categories in this topic. Floral notes have the ability to make you feel extremely calm or can sometimes put you in a "romantic" type of mood. Some examples of floral notes are: lavender, geranium, rose, and jasmine.

Citrus Notes

Citrus essential oils are very uplifting. They can lift your mood and heighten your meditation. I usually like to burn a citrus and herbaceous oil (we'll get to that one in a second) in the morning to liven my spirits. Some examplets of citrus essential oils are grapefruit, bergamot, lemon (DUH!), lime (more DUH!!!), and sweet orange.

Herbaceous Notes

Wrapping up the main essential oil categories, herbaceous notes, in my opinion, are the coolest kids of the bunch. LITERALLY! These oils can have a cooling sensation when used in massage. Some of them are used to clear up sinus issues. Others are used to cool away muscle aches. Some examples of herbaceous essential oils are peppermint, eucalyptus, tea tree, oregano, and rosemary.

Whew! Though this wasn't a lengthy read, the research the went into this one took a lot out of me. What are some of your favorite oil blends? Mine are Lavender and Tea Tree oil. I call it the perfect calming pick me up. Leave your favorite oil blends down in the comments below. Until next time...
