Skin Series: 3 Healthy Ingredients Your Skin Is Craving

At this point in Skin Series, we've learned about all types of skin, but we haven't really talked about what ALL skin needs to stay healthy. Today, we're going to talk about major things that keep your skin happy, healthy, and wanting more.

More and more companies are shying away from harsh chemicals and going green. Not green all together but they are using more naturally derived, plant based ingredients that are healthier for your skin.

Anti-oxidants

Anti-oxidants protect your body from damaging and harmful molecules called free radicals. You can think of Free Radicals as your Swiper from Dora the Explorer. (Yes, I went there!) Swiper is always taking things that don't belong to him and that's essentially how free radicals work. When healthy cells are minding their business, free radicals come along and steal those cells from them, causing them to become unwell, damaged. Enter anti-oxidants; they rescue those damaged molecules and donate electrons, which neutralizes those free radicals and prevents them from causing further harm. That's kinda cool huh?! It's You literally have an ongoing episode of a Nickelodeon show happening in your body and you didn't even know it. Fruit like oranges, grapefruits, and blueberries are natural carriers for anti-oxidants.

Plant Derived Stem Cells

Adding plant derived stem cells to skin care isn't new to skin care but new technologies have made this a new phenom. A lot of companies are looking to stem cells help regenerate skin in some way. Research has found that stem cells from some grapes seeds help to support collagen reproduction, where stem cells from some apple seeds help to protect against oxidative (free radicals) stress. The companies that utilize stem cell technology are more than likely going to be natural, certified organic, or have a large environmental presence.

Water

The most obvious of them all...WATER! High Quality H2O. I'm guessing if you're as childish as I am, you read that in Bobby Bouche's voice from the movie, The Water Boy. (I knew it!) We need water for so many things in life. Your skin is no different. There are tell tale signs of when your skin needs water. Ever notice when your lips produce extra skin? That doesn't mean you need to exfoliate your lips, you NEED water sis! I mean, by all means, scrub those lips when they get crusty but you need to increase your water intake also. Water during the cold, harsh winter months can help to keep your skin hydrated, with the help of your skin care of course. Inversely, water during the hot, sticky, muggy summer months can help to keep your skin balanced and not excessively oily. See! It works both ways. Skin care and makeup with a water base can help to keep skin healthy also.

I'm an ingredients type of girl so I'm always looking up benefits. Whether you skin is dry, oily, or sensitive, your skin will always need the three of theses ingredients. Tell me, what are some of your favorite skin loving ingredients? Let me know down below. Until next time,
