Current Obsession: Essential Oils

Essential oils are said to have healing properties. Some are anti-bacterial, others uplift and de-stress. What you can say about them for sure is they smell so good! That's why my current obsession is essential oils. I don't have a specific brand that I purchase exclusively but I will say that some of my favorite brands are Aveda, Airome, and ESS, just to name a few. Let take a look at some of my favorite blends and singular notes.

Commonly Asked Questions

What are essential oils? A natural oil that's usually procured by distillation and displays characteristic fragrance from the plant it was extracted from.

What is the difference between singular notes and blends? Well, it's exactly as it sounds. Singular notes have the fragrance of one oil, whereas, blends have the fragrance of several different essential oils.

Can I use essential oils directly on my skin? It's safe to use essential oils directly on the skin as long as you mix it with a carrier oil or mix it with whatever you're trying to use.

Lavender

Lavender is great for sleepy time and relaxation. Honestly, there's nothing like soaking in a hot bath with a few drops of lavender, a glass of white wine and Frank Sinatra playing on Spotify. I use lavender as a pillow spray to get the boys to wind down for the evening and also in their lotion to heighten the effect. I love lavender!

Bergamot

Not many have heard of bergamot. It's citrus aroma will make you think it's sweet orange or even tangerine. It's best used to energize. I usually burn this around the house on rainy days to give everyone a little pick-me-up.

Eucalyptus

Eucalyptus is said to have many benefits like relieving sinus pressure, fighting infections and reducing inflammation, which makes this essential oil one of my favs because I'm always aching somewhere. I also use it a lot during the winter months to open my sinus cavities. No STUFFY NOSES! (In the process of me photographing all featured oils, eucalyptus decided to be a butt head and roll off the table and broke on the floor)

Sleep Time

Sleep time blends come in a lot of different combinations. Most of them, however, contain lavender oil or clary sage. My favorite combination is lavender, patchouli, and vetiver. I like to mix this in with a bit coconut oil and use it on myself and the boys if they are a bit restless at the end of the day.

Uplift

If this doesn't sound self-explanatory, uplifting blends help to lift your spirits. They almost always include a citrus aroma like tangerine, sweet orange, or bergamot. I usually use this oil when I clean because it helps me through that VERY tough task. You ever try to keep the entire house clean with a 2 year old and 5 year old in the house? It's hard AF!

Clarity/Focus

A focus blend is good to use during meditation, which is how I use my clarity/focus blend.. It helps me to really pour myself into my meditation session, whether it be a 10 minute or 30 minute session. Clarity or focus blends will include patchouli, frankinsence or sandalwood.

Do you own any essential oils? How do you use them if so? What are your favorites so far? Let me know down below. Essential oils can definitely turn a rainy day into a day full of sunshine. Until next time...
